![]() Only my guess but the irony of buying a 'Ticket to Ride. 'Ticket to Ride' is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, written primarily by John Lennon and credited to LennonMcCartney. Only my guess but the irony of buying a 'Ticket to Ride.to Ryde' plus John actually buying Aunt Mimi a property at nearby Hayling Island just might be the origin of the title of this classic Beatles song ?Īs I said if anybody knows otherwise please advise of course So someone clearly had put the 'Isle of Wight' in Paul's mind by 1967, a place way down at the very southern tip of Britain, the opposite end of the country from Liverpool - a holiday resort, that maybe John had earlier visited circa 1965 and spoken of to Paul. 'Every summer we can rent a cottage on the Isle of Wight if it's not too dear.' Such an irony I suspect would have appealed to John's wry sense of humor - and possibly stuck in his mind ?Īlso in 1967 Paul's 'When I'm Sixty Four' has the line Hence boarding the passenger ferry you buy a 'Ticket to ride'.to go across the Solent (waterway) to 'Ryde' ! Hayling Island is quite close to the Isle of Wight (to be later made famous in music circles for the 19 festivals) - if John went across by passenger ferry to the Isle of Wight from either Hayling Island or nearby Southsea (Portsmouth) the main landing on the Isle of Wight is at RYDE Well here's my guess (only that) - we do know that in the early sixties through an old Liverpool friend's connection John bought a property way down on the south coast of England in Hampshire on Hayling Island - for his Aunt Mimi to have holidays in.presumably John very likely travelled down to check the area and place out for himself beforehand 'we wrote it together, but the title idea was John's, I'm not sure where he got the idea from tho' I do recall that was one of John's titles. I listened to Paul McCartney's interview on BBC Radio One some years back which I have on tape 'The McCartney Interview' ![]() Meantime here's my suggestion.at least one possibility The Beatles - Ticket To Ride The Beatles 8.09M subscribers Subscribe Subscribed 403K Share 71M views 5 years ago GeorgeHarrison JohnLennon TheBeatles The Beatles performing Ticket To.
